Abstract
Objective: In order to define osteoporosis on the basis of bone mineral measurements, one must define an
acceptable normal range. We measured bone mineral density to provide such a database for normal korean
women and men.

Method: One thousand and ninety four inhabitants (444 males and 650 females whose age was 55.6÷Ï13.6 years-old) were participated in this study. BMD was measured in the right calcaneus by quantitative ultrasound (Mark 6000?, Medison). Independent sample T-test and correlation test were used for data analysis.

Results: Increasing the age, BMD showed significantly lower T-score (p<0.01), especially between the fifth decade and sixth decade in men. Increasing the age, BMD showed significantly lower ¡Éscore (p<0.01), especially between the fifth decade and sixth decade and between seventh and eighth in women.

Conclusion: We measured bone mineral density to provide a database for normal korean. The above results should be ¥ò¡¤eated with caution and conflfffied using standardized and larger Samples.
